Variations by Location
Warning: some Publix stores inside shopping centers or malls might follow mall hours, which could mean earlier closure. The safest bet? Call your local store in the days leading up to Christmas Eve.
Some flagship stores in larger metro areas might keep extended hours until 7 PM, but these are exceptions, not the rule.
Top Tips for Shopping Publix on Christmas Eve 2026
Running errands on Christmas Eve can be a circus. Here’s how to dodge the chaos and get exactly what you need without losing your mind.
- Shop early: Aim for the morning when shelves are stocked and crowds are light.
- Make a list: Prioritize essentials—milk, eggs, that elusive baking ingredient.

In one chaotic Christmas Eve last year, I watched a guy sprinting down the frozen foods aisle because he realized Publix closed at 6 PM sharp. Don’t be that guy.
What’s Open When Publix Is Closed?
Publix’s early closure leaves a gap, but don’t sweat it. Convenience stores and some grocery chains stay open later, though prices might be steeper.
If you’re desperate, look for local specialty markets or drugstores with grocery sections—they often stay open until 9 PM or later on Christmas Eve.
Pro tip: Plan ahead, because last-minute panic shopping always means higher prices and limited stock.
